B. Fulhadhoo · Baa Atoll
The castaway one. An island of white sand and silence, where the beach seems to run forever and the only footprints may be your own.
The Island
Fulhadhoo lies in the quiet south of Baa Atoll — a small island celebrated for one of the longest untouched stretches of beach in the Maldives.
Most of the island is beach, palm and casuarina; the village occupies one small corner. Walk west and the sand narrows into a wild spit between lagoon and open sea. Days here are measured in tides, not hours.
Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, famous for the manta gatherings of Hanifaru Bay. Fulhadhoo shares its quiet southern lagoon with two neighbours, Fehendhoo and Goidhoo. History washed ashore here too: the French ship Corbin was wrecked on these reefs in 1602, leaving the voyager François Pyrard to write one of the first European accounts of the Maldives.
